Well it's been a while since my last update.
Nov 17: Day 68: (wow can that be right?)
Total Miles: 7600
A short ride today on interstate 40 from Santa Rosa NM to Flagstaff, the day started at about 34 degrees and eventually warmed up to a nice toasty 50........
Nov 11: Day 62 – Left Gatlinburg and headed toward the BMW dealer in Lenoir City for the 12,000 mile maintenance. Took a bit longer than I'd hoped so I only made it as far as Nashville. I ended up in a new Best Western in a little town called White House, it's a bit north of Nashville, nice place and I would have really enjoyed the road out from the highway if it hadn't been dark, as it was I was going pretty slowly, and really keeping and eye out for deer.
Nov 9: Day 60 – Left Asheville and headed up though the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. The ride though the park was wonderful. Here again my rule of avoiding night riding conflicted with the photography, as it would have been nice to hang out for sunset. I was also a bit late for fall color. There are some truly amazing riding roads in this area not the least of which is Deals Gap – The Tail of the Dragon – one count has it as 318 curves in 11 miles – Yikes. Might have been better to unload the bike first but what the heck. Spent the night in Gatlinburg which is must have more mini-golf places per mile than any other place on earth. This is a family tourist mecca, I assume because of it sits right between Dollywood and the National Park – what more could you ask for – oddly none of the attractions in town did much for me, except the few art galleries.
Nov 8: Exploring Asheville.
Nov 6: Exploring Williamsburg – fun, informative, and I wish I'd felt like I could spend another couple of days, alas I'm feeling the desire to get back home. I had a very deja-vu experience in the blacksmith shop. I could swear I'd been there before kinda weird, and it's nothing like the forge I have worked on, back when I lived in Reno.
Nov 5: The ride from Shepherdstown to Williamsburg was really nice – good weather, lots of back roads and a little bit of freeway. Too late to do much except dinner and bed.
Oct 24: Day 44 – Off to Salem with side trips to New Hampshire and Maine. Spent a few hours wandering around “America's Stonehenge” which has almost no resemblance to Stonehenge other than there's a lot of rock. It is however a pretty interesting site if the dating is correct – some of the structures are about 4000 years old.
Oct 17: Day 38 – Arrive in South Lee, MA. I have the loan of a condo for a week, I feel like I'm copping out because I rented a car today and left the bike with Annie & Andrew. On the other hand, it was 36 Degrees and Raining when I arrived and the forecast was for at least 2 more days of that before things cleared, In reality things were pretty good by Monday (19th) and the rest of the week was very nice – On the other hand I think I got a lot more photography done for many of the reasons I talked about last time. For example being able to pull over on the the dirt/grass on a hill – would never have even though about it on the bike – and that type of situation was pretty common. All in all I put about 1200 miles on the rental wandering around Mass, Vermont, NH, Maine, and RI. I think I got some good images, but I won't really be sure until I can work on them at home and do some prints.
